How to perform SLOW drop-offs on your mountain bike - a step by step tutorial of different ways to drop down from obstacles at slow speeds. In this Video I teach you the wheelie drop and the back wheel hop drop. WHY use the wheelie drop? 1. It's fun ;-) 2. Its a pretty easy trick to drop off a non-rollable height at very slow speed. WHY use the back wheel hop drop?? 1. It’s fun ;-) 2. it’s a very advanced skill originating from trials mountain biking. If you look at videos by Fabio Wibmer or Danny MacAskill - when they jump off a high ledge, they use mostly this technique (in much more perfection - obviously 😊) 3. Landing over the rear wheel is MUCH safer than landing over the front or both wheels when you are dropping at SLOW speed (or standstill) - because it enables you to absorb the landing with the feet (=strong muscles) first, and then with the rest of the body. Again, if you look at trials riders who drop from BIG heights, they will always land over their rear tire. 4. Also when landing in rocky and rooty terrain - this technique (in contrast to the 3/4 punch technique, which leaves you with your non-preferred foot at the front) is perceived as much safer and more natural for most riders I have coached. Because landing is an impact - so we want to have our preferred stance to use the muscles we usually train. 5. With the back wheel hop drop a rider has much more precision. Because you can jump farther after coming to a standstill at the edge. For example if you want to jump off the edge and land on a tin (trials trick) - then this is the technique of choice. The wheelie drop won’t work then. @darrenrieschieck98842 years ago Roxy I have watched many videos on how to... I take a bit from all and apply to what suits me. I think the technical critics are missing the point. You do a great job. Anyone who likes 🐈 has my vote. 1

@earthymom68last year This is one of the skills I have been trying to master. Thank you for simplifying each little step! The cats are a nice touch, too, lol! (I have two as well.) 1

@iamamodel75 months ago I've been riding MTB at a high level for over 30 years, including instructing and also dabble in trials. This is one of the best MTB instructional videos on Youtube. I would add to keep pedaling all the way off the lip and also look way forward - some people have a tendency to look too close in front of their wheel and therefore they land where they were looking and that means their front wheel drops down too early. ...

@moisestatis5418last year Windy day! As usual, great video. I got so much to learn and you're great at teaching. I also love Coffee but I think is better for both of us to buy one of your online courses. 😊 I'm practicing the trackstand course for being able to do this one. You're great, keep up that positive Energy! 🙌🏻 ... 1

@mostlikelywedoitservices69262 years ago Great vid. Add in point. Go to a grassy area and practice full loop-outs. When we don't have so much fear of looping out we can focus on the actual practice we are learning.

@buffmtnwmn4 years ago Maybe I missed it in the video, my apologies if I did, but I'm curious if there is a time or type of drop where you would use one move over another. I'm just starting to get into drops and trying to figure out if I should be doing manuals off of each one or if there are other techniques I could be using to ensure smooth air time and landings. Thank you for your awesome video tutorials and beautiful demos! ... 1

@j.albertogratacos20763 years ago I think I'm able to follow your steps to get over the drop. However, about 1/3 of the time I try this, the bike will start going sideways and I have to come down very quickly. If I attempt that during an actual drop I would land completely off to the side. Any thoughts? ¡Gracias - tienes los mejores videos! ...

@mostlikelywedoitservices69262 years ago What's funny all skills come down to basic balance skills and timing. Track stand is on the top of the list in my opinion. 1

@michb60744 years ago SO you are not sitting down like wheelie but standing up after wheelie kick, using break to hold, and then bounce. Right? from Artzyblack

@gatoryak73324 years ago My question is, "Why?" Why do a track stand at the lip of a drop? Why elevate the front wheel? Why land on the rear wheel, then slam the front wheel down because you raised it so high? This may work OK on smooth, flat, man-made surfaces, but I would be afraid to use it when dropping into rocky, rooty trails especially if the trail is has a downhill slope. Or if the top of the drop is a natural, non-flat surface. Please discuss the utility of this technique. ... 1
