@dr.rachellindberg58163 years ago 1 billion spent on a half-assed LARP experience in a Star Wars trash compactor hotel. We're definitely gonna be seeing more cancelations. 169

@stevequincy3883 years ago Disney would have to pay me $6,000 to be “immersed” in the crappy sequel trilogy for 48 hours. 11

@DCS1013 years ago At this point Disney deserves what ever success they get. If they put together a bad product, they deserve the results. 70
  • @
@cathconnelly3 years ago Even Iger coming back can't stop this train from derailing. Disney is so creatively and morally bankrupt, at this point, there's really no stopping it. In the past, people put up with the high price tag for Disney because they believed they were getting a quality product for the price. These days, Disney feels more like a bait and switch, charging more, giving less, and people see right through the smoke screen. ... 15

@TheInvisibleCactusYT3 years ago The fact that they may confiscate filming and photography equipment before entering and keep a sum of money if you change your mind about staying shows me that they definitely do not have full faith in this product.

@conqc203 years ago Disney is trying so hard to force people to love the sequel series and The High Republic. No matter how much it fails they double down on it. Even though making it original trilogy would make them a ton of money. 13
  • @
@Kertgaferg3 years ago The Starcruiser would be like Universal buying the Harry Potter rights and building "generic wizardry themed shopping lane" instead of a replica of Diagon Alley. 12
  • @
@iwantalienstotakeme3 years ago This hotel as a concept could have been cool, if it looked and felt like Star Wars and involved characters from the movies besides Rey and Kylo. But even then, it would not be worth the exorbitant pricetag. The flu has put the kibosh on most of the LARPing aspects of Disney's Star Wars experience so what are you paying for here is some expensive backdrops. For $5000-20,000, you can build a little Star Wars themed room in your house with fake space windows, and LARP there to your heart's content without tourists in flip flops ruining the immersion. ... 58

@WyzGyzEntertainment3 years ago I don’t see them firing Chapek. Iger so badly wants to run for president that his mind is on politics despite his failure at running Disney. He is no savior. Chapek is like the axman in any business design to cut costs and get rid of the excess staff and make the business leaner again. He is equivalent to Gil Emilio at Apple before Steve Jobs‘s return. Disney had too many years of Iger on his spending spree buying all the competition and turning Disney into the monopoly it is today. Disney is making the same mistake a lot of corporations make. They chase after the dollars from rich people in the hopes of rescue and kick the fan bases to the curb, when it was those very fan bases that made the properties as popular as they are today. ... 45

@jaybinning28903 years ago I just got back from Disney. You can't help but feel nickel and dimed on EVERYTHING you do. Like, I know Disney has never been a "cheap" experience, but it's pretty nutz now. I remember standing in some of the super long standby lines 7 years ago and thinking to myself, I'd pay $10 to skip this 3 hour wait. Now that is literally a thing you can do, and I hate it. Market capitalism is great when you have all the money. For everyone else, it kinda sucks. ... 12

@dagazrune64533 years ago The failure of the Galactic Starcruiser is more about the fact that it is based on Iger's & KK's decisions. This was doomed to fail once Disney chose to make it about the ST and not the PT or the OT. No amount of money would save this ship. ... 14

Michael Eisner could have done better than Chapstick. 👎👎👎 ... 3
  • @
@SandraOrtmann19763 years ago This could have been so awesome. Like, Disney could do two of these hotels. One could be themed at the Sequels, and the other one at the OT. And from time to time, they could throw in Prequel characters here and there. Or maybe design the facilities in such a way that it is kind of "neutral". Then offer tours themed at OT, Prequels and Sequels in a rolling system.
Ah, maybe that is a bad idea...certain tours might be hopelessly overbooked.

@jaesea3233 years ago So Chapek will take the fall for Kennedy. Kathleen started this mess by changing Galaxy's Edge theming to ST rather than OT. I would be signed up for the Star Cruiser if it had Luke, Han, Leia, and Vader in it. I wouldn't pay $100 to be around more of the boring Batuu timeline that Galaxy's Edge is, which gets boring after about 20 mins in it. ... 10

@ncode033 years ago C'mon, those bookings are from friends and families of the team. Even if those are bogus bookings and we can't prove it anyway. It's one of those tactics of hype. Create an illusion of high demand of the product so it will have a greater desirability. They may even offer free/subsidised tickets to influencers and organizations so it looks like people are crowding the venue. It's child's play ... 9

@cyberleaderandy13 years ago People are realising how bad this looks, the reality of the amount of money involved, the nearness of Christmas and the economy is hitting people. No wonder the number of cancellations that are flooding in for this trash 🔥. 5
  • @
@lordtrinen22493 years ago Chapek isn't losing his job over this. Most of this shit that's hitting the fan now was thrown into the wind by Iger. Chapek just happens to be in the CEO seat as it hits. I know that's not necessarily a defense as people will still try to blame him but I just don't see them giving Chapek the boot so soon. That article about Bob Iger coming back was probably leaked by Iger himself or those loyal to him in a last desperate flailing attempt to keep Iger relevant and make him still seem like a man in charge. But he's not. He's out the door very, very soon. And people are already starting to look back and realize that his reign was more detrimental than beneficial. If, by some remote chance, they do ask Chapek to step down, they sure as hell won't be inviting Iger back to fill the seat. They'll find someone else. ... 74

@dorkultra3 years ago it's been said a million times, Disney will provide the bare minimum in exchange for your money. The problem is that people are still showing up to pay more for less

@redheads6043 years ago Why is everyone chanting for Iger's return? He's not a saint as he's also responsible for this mess. It feels like Chapek is being set up as a scapegoat. 1

@charlesjmouse3 years ago It's a pretty typical mistake business make when they are struggling.
Instead of asking the question "How do we make our business more attractive to gain customers?" they say "Let's screw the customers we do have just a bit harder".
The result is no new customers and the current, likely already unhappy, customers say "Enough!" and depart. Good bye Evil Mouse. :-D

@jafdez23 years ago We are living through a pandemic. I am glad to hear they are working to not overcrowd the parks. I see that as the right thing to do for public health. Now the resort thing I think that is a total money grab and a ripoff.

@dan84023 years ago The planning and designation of creative control was done under Iger. This might shield Chapek a little.

@arisucheddar30973 years ago This thing honestly sounds like an overpriced Vegas hotel that takes itself way too seriously.
Why would I ever want to go? It looks cheaply made, uncomfortable, and like the sort of thing where I constantly feel terrible for the actors/ singers they hired. For much, much, MUCH less, I've gone to Celebration and seen some actual pieces from the OT, people who love dressing up and playing their roles, merchandise at all price points and from all corners of Star Wars, and some of the actual people involved with the creative process. And no, I wasn't dressed up; it was still really welcoming and I wasn't dragged into participating.
And it looked like Star Wars.

@srb28343 years ago Another thing I haven’t heard about the hotel, the economics don’t really add up to be profitable. W/ only 100 rooms and 15 booking periods a month, even if they were @ 100% capacity for every booking, all 12 months, (&factoring in extra purchases and add one; $2,000/person) …. After operating costs, taxes, and other expenses to run the hotel, that would barely net a $5m profit.
And if the hotel cost upwards of $500m to build, they’re gonna need a way larger return per year on their investment than that.

That lawsuit against Disneyland probably won't win. I have the pass but I'm not a big fan of the pass system. That said, going to Disneyland a lot lately they do need to ease up on their price hikes. Disneyland is Walt's park, it should not only cater to those with deep pockets. ... 2

@robertroberts50903 years ago What people don't understand is that when Disney makes the news for raising prices stock holders take pleasure in the news, as it shows management has the balls to go full capitalist.
