my teacher actually as a person who has been drawing for her whole life i did both still life and life drawing classes and in artistic high school they taught us how to take proportions. But never anatomy.
so. I practiced a lot of drawing in highschool and i improved a lot.
as a person who has been also selft taught i' ve already used all of the methods that you listed, which are amazing.
but when i went to the academy yes, they taught beginners how to do that, but to a person like me, who really wanted to add that more spice to the drawing, i would get critique but most of the time my drawing was right, the teacher told me that my only problem was positioning the subject in the center of the paper.
but the proportions and everything were 90% of the time right.
idk, i still want to improve my quickness in taking proportions and likeness, when i am at the anatomy class, my drawing is not how i want it, even though my teacher always tells me that it' s good.

jeez. There is so many youtubers barely starting something, and already i also use just pencil and paper for measuring an sketching. Plus ruler! Because i draw architecture, and straight lines look much better with drawn with ruler. Also perspective line drawing is so much simpler with a ruler. But thats it. Pencil, paper, ruler.
it takes years to actualy become good at these things.
and you know. Going gradualy deeper and deeper into understanding stuff. I kinda actualy end up not using more than half of the stuff i buy, and experiment with for drawing. But in the end of the day it somehow it makes sense and gives exp. And narrows down to something

love learning to draw.
over the years i find myself becoming too dependent drawing from life is truly where the best improvements can be made since you will have to figure out everything from the composition and don' t get stuck on specific tools.
checking proportions on the scanned images is very easy to correct mistakes and to growth your observation skills but it is also important to build confidence to not depend on it and aim master the observation skills.
this can free you from any constrain of size format, improve line efficiency and confidence
i have a question about proportions and i think you have being when i draw loose and with no compromise, the vibrancy of the strokes pops - but sometimes it lacks proportions, and things out of alignment.
but, sometimes when i want to pursuit a true likeness (lots of measurements) the result is stiff and many times i leave them cause i feel i will not be able to bring them to life.
i draw with charcoal pencil (loong tip) and newsprint paper.
so, my question is: how to balance the vibrancy of a loose and relaxed joy drawing - with something stricketed like a super fine likeness? Or how to achieve a loose brushwork on such restricted lay in?
